Works great with my wide screen tv and the quality is amazing.I recomend this great item.
On the other hand, 40 GB is ample for all but the most extensive digital audio collection and for one's top rated photographs. The device is often warm to the touch, but never noisy. I've multiple terabytes of video in my house, and it would be futile to store any of it on such a low capacity device. That is why I don't buy movies and store them on the device. I've owned a 40GB AppleTV for over a year. It could allow web browsing. And I'm interested in the new feature of listening to Internet radio broadcasts found in the 3.0 version of the AppleTV operating system. Or watching YouTube.
So, yes, the Apple TV could do more. This is controlled with the must-have Remote app you can get for your iPhone or iPod Touch.And a common activity is watching movie trailers on a lazy Saturday afternoon, or renting a kids movie during the weekend. I do not see any particular advantage between the 160GB version and the 40GB version as while 40GB is pathetically small for storing a video library, 160GB is too. I've also tried hacking the device and installing XBMC to watch movies from a home server, but the results were too cumbersome and it is annoying reinstalling after every OS update. So I keep my 3 star or higher music files on my AppleTV and use an AirTunes enabled Airport Express to stream sound to the speakers in my bathroom. Or showing a slideshow of my kids to visitors. It could have Netflix integration (never happen), it could get its local video from a centralized NAS instead of a computer running iTunes. It could do these things and be a great indispensable device, but it doesn't and it is just a nice, easy to use, friendly device that does a few things quite well.
Apple TV is supposed to be a consumer product, fully tested. I spent hours (literally) with Apple customer support (which by the way ranges from barely competent to quite good).I consistently received the 3689 port error -- and despite opening up this port on my Windows Firewall and my Symantec anti-virus, I still received the port error message. I also want to preface -- I am (or was) a big Apple fan.I never succeeded to synch the Apple TV with iTunes. Apple consistently refused my request for refund -- told me to go to BestBuy, where I bought the product. I was told by Apple support to reconfigure my router, which is beyond my abilities. At this point I asked for a refund, because without iTunes Apple TV is little more than a way to see YouTube on your television. Warning -- if you buy this, make sure you get it to work within 30 days (or the return policy of the vendor). Apple does not stand behind this product.
Easy to install, easy to use, good quality, but It's unbelievable that itunes offers movies, tv shows, etc. without subtitles or close caption. many times the conection between apple tv and imac gets slow so it pause playing and makes you wait a couple of seconds. Sync only woks manually from you computer.
I ordered the Apple TV from DataVision here at Amazon and even payed $20 for next day shipping. 3 weekes later, my DH birthday came around and I never recieved the package. Waiting to be refunded but ended up without a gift.
